In 1903, Jamsetji Tata, one of India’s greatest industrial pioneers, envisioned a place where Indians and Europeans could meet as equals. From this idea emerged India’s first five-star hotel, which opened its doors on 16 December 1903.

Designed in the grand Indo-Saracenic style, the palace features an eclectic blend of architectural influences. Moorish domes, Victorian Gothic elements, and steel sourced from Paris, the same supplier behind the Eiffel Tower, all speak to the global scale and ambition of the project.

121 Years of History and Heritage

Over the past 121 years, The Taj Mahal Palace has become an inseparable part of India’s modern narrative. It has welcomed royalty, statesmen, artists, poets, and world leaders. It was the first hotel in the country to introduce electricity, German elevators, American ceiling fans, and English butlers, setting benchmarks in luxury and innovation.
