Woven Into Legacy at Zayed National Museum, Abu Dhabi

Woven Into Legacy at Zayed National Museum, Abu Dhabi
Opening in December 2025 in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District, the Zayed National Museum is set to become one of the UAE’s most important cultural landmarks. Conceived as the national home for memory, research, and public life, the museum brings together heritage, scholarship, and sustainable architecture in one extraordinary destination. More than just a building, it is a place where history, identity, and innovation converge.
Architecture with Purpose
The architecture of Zayed National Museum is as symbolic as it is functional. Designed by Foster + Partners, the building is instantly recognizable by its five slender towers, inspired by the wings of a falcon, an emblem deeply tied to the nation’s cultural identity. But these are not simply aesthetic gestures. Each tower doubles as a solar thermal chimney, drawing cool air through the museum’s interior while releasing warm air above.
This marriage of performance and poetry reflects the museum’s broader vision: to embody tradition while embracing modern sustainability. Rising from the desert landscape, the towers have already claimed their place on Abu Dhabi’s skyline, marking the museum as both a cultural beacon and an environmental innovation.
A Timeline Written in Objects
Inside the museum, visitors will walk through a narrative that spans approximately 300,000 years of human history. The collection is carefully curated to link the earliest traces of settlement in the region to the thriving, modern UAE of today.
Among its highlights are rare and significant treasures:
- Folios from the Blue Qur’an, one of the most celebrated manuscripts in the Islamic world.
- The Abu Dhabi Pearl, believed to be among the oldest known natural pearls, connecting visitors to the region’s ancient maritime traditions.
- A full-scale reconstruction of a Magan boat, built in collaboration with academic institutions to showcase early seafaring life.
The galleries are designed to be immersive, blending artifacts, scholarship, and storytelling. In moving through the museum, visitors do not just observe history, they are invited to experience how the past continues to shape the nation’s present and future.
A Cultural District with Global Weight
The opening of Zayed National Museum completes a cultural arc on Saadiyat Island. Together with Louvre Abu Dhabi, the museum forms a dialogue between world cultures and local heritage. Nearby, team Lab Phenomena offers an immersive digital experience, while the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi are also underway.
This cluster of institutions places Abu Dhabi firmly on the global cultural map. Saadiyat Cultural District is no longer just a local development, it is a destination of international significance, drawing scholars, tourists, and art lovers from around the world.
Our Contribution to a National Landmark
For a project of this magnitude, every detail matters. At Zayed National Museum, the materials and carpet design were defined by the project team. Our role is to manufacture and install the custom carpets to those exact specifications, ensuring that the vision of the architects and curators is executed with precision.
Working within such an environment requires more than technical expertise; it demands discretion, patience, and absolute attention to quality. In cultural projects of this scale, carpets are not simply floor coverings; they are part of the sensory experience, shaping how visitors feel as they move through space.
For us, this project is a privilege. It allows us to demonstrate not only craftsmanship, but also our ability to adapt, listen, and deliver within the framework of a national story. We understand that our contribution, though subtle, becomes part of the foundation upon which the museum will welcome visitors for generations.
Building for the Future
As the museum prepares for its opening, the significance of the project becomes even clearer. Zayed National Museum is not only about honoring the past, it is about creating a platform for future research, education, and cultural exchange. It reflects the UAE’s commitment to investing in knowledge, identity, and sustainability.
We are proud to play a role in this journey. By aligning our work with the museum’s vision, we are reminded of what thoughtful design and careful execution can achieve. In every stitch, every weave, and every installation, our goal remains the same: to contribute with integrity, respect, and excellence.
A Lasting Privilege
Few opportunities carry the weight and honor of being part of a national institution. Zayed National Museum is one such opportunity. As it prepares to open its doors in December 2025, we reflect on the values it represents: memory, scholarship, and cultural pride.
For us, contributing carpets to this landmark is more than a project. It is a responsibility and a privilege, one we approach with humility and dedication. And when visitors from around the world walk through its galleries, experiencing the stories of the UAE, we will take pride in knowing that our work quietly supports that experience.
